About me

Hi, I’m Andrea Buzzi, Software and Platform Engineer at Elmec Informatica, based in Italy. My daily work revolves around IBM Power, and especially IBM i modernization: taking systems that have been running reliably for decades and bringing them into a modern way of developing, managing and integrating them.

What I do at Elmec

Besides working on customer systems, I lead a task force dedicated to designing new services and solutions, on two fronts:

  • Internal tools, such as monitoring and automation that help our teams keep Power environments healthy;
  • Customer solutions, from CI/CD pipelines for IBM i development to artificial intelligence projects built on IBM watsonx.

My technical playground

IBM i (RPG, CL, Db2 for i and SQL services), AIX and Linux on Power, storage and backup (IBM FlashSystem, BRMS, physical and virtual tape), high availability with PowerHA and Rocket iCluster, and automation with Ansible. Around the platform I also work with Java, TypeScript, Python, PHP and C, plus the usual infrastructure pieces: Apache, Nginx, HAProxy, OpenVPN, PostgreSQL and MySQL.

Open source

I’m a core team member of Code for IBM i, the open-source project that brings IBM i development into VS Code. Within the project I reworked and revitalized Code4i FS, the extension that lets you manage QSYS objects, jobs and spooled files directly from the editor.

Why All4Power

This blog is where I share what I learn in the field: SQL tricks, system management, tooling and everything that helps keep Power systems modern. If an article here saved you an afternoon, that’s exactly why it exists.
